Old Class Stories
First Elk Lake Jazz Band
Does anyone remember when we got the new band leader who drove a Saab. He was very young and passionate about music. He said if you want to stay in the band you could not be in any other activity and everyone quit the band so he apologized and stated that he was new. Later on we realized just how cool he was and talked to him about starting a Jazz band. To our surprise he said yes and then he said that was great and we had 3 months to prepare for the state championships. We thought all of this was impossible, but we went forward making our own music stands and with tons of practice we went to Philadelphia and placed in the top 5. We all had a great time.

Sixth grade, Dimock school. Since I lived in town I walked to school and my cat would often follow me. Miss Lippert our teacher had a fondness for songbirds and fed them in winter outside our classroom. Unfortunately my cat would hide and pounce on the ground feeding birds at times and make Miss Lippert angry. Not only that but my feline friend would walk along the outside window sill and peer in at the class. Once miss Lippert was heard to say "there is that blank, blank, cat again. I had to make myself scarce. Through the years however Miss Lippert was probably the most important influence in my life as her love of nature and the environment inspired me in my life's work in wildlife. After she retired I visited her several times to thank her for what her teaching meant to me. I'm still enjoying the great outdoors here in Montana!
